Water Change Schedule Generator

Pick a starting cadence, then let real observations and testing refine it. This generator is a planning aid, not an exact correct interval.

Inputs to collect

The same tank volume can need different care depending on what is living in it and how it is run.

  • Tank volume and system age
  • Freshwater, planted, reef, saltwater, pond, or quarantine setup
  • Stocking and feeding level
  • Filtration and plant load
  • Recent ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, phosphate, pH, salinity, alkalinity, or other tracked readings

Use a cautious starting cadence

Choose a conservative review interval, then update it when trend data says the tank needs more or less attention.

  • Lightly stocked freshwater: review weekly or biweekly
  • New or unstable systems: test more often before stretching intervals
  • Reef systems: include chemistry stability, not only nitrate
  • Quarantine systems: follow trusted care guidance and observation closely
